Alion Nancy Newie (Nee: Baluz/Savage) was traditionally adopted from Yam Island by Joe and Zaraza Savage. Her biological mother was the sister of Zaraza. Alion was born in 1885 on Gebar Island and died on 7 February 1946 at St Paul’s Mission on Mua Island at the age of 63.
Alion married Harry Newie, who was born in 1860 at Alofi, Nuie Island, and died in 1920 at St Paul’s Mission, Mua Island, aged 60 years. Together they raised a family whose descendants are closely connected across several Torres Strait Island communities.
Their children included Pierotta Ware (Nee: Newie) married to Aven Ware, was born in 1904 at Upai, Badu Island, and died 1988 in Cairns at the age of 84. Pelithoa Ware (Nee: Newie) married to Gayai Ware, was born in 1906 at Upai, Badu Island, and died 1970 in St. Pauls' Mission, Mua Island at the age 64.
Mica Newie married to Lelae Ware, was born in 1908 at Adan Village, Mua Island, and died 28 November 1988 at St. Pauls' Mission, Mua Island at the age 80.
Samuel Newie born in 1911 at St. Pauls' Mission, Mua Island, and died in 1916 at age 5 years.
Norah Ware (Nee: Newie) married to Eddie Ware, was born in 1913 at St. Pauls' Mission, Mua Island, and died in 1952 at age 39 years.
David Newie born 1916 and died 1926 age 10 years.
Elsie Ward (also known as Elsie) married to Fred Ware, was born 1918 at Thursday Island, and died 2006 age 88 years.
