Annie Ahwang (Nee: Savage)
was born in 1873 on Darnley Island and passed away in 1956 on Thursday Island at the age of 83. Annie was the biological child of Zaraza from her first marriage. Zaraza later married Joe Savage, and Annie was traditionally adopted by them.
Annie married Dai, also known as Jaffa Ahwang (1860–1935), a man of Malaysian origin. Together they raised a large family whose descendants spread across several islands and communities.
Their children included Golojio Los Santas (born 1888, date of death unknown), Amina Ahwang (born 1891, date of death unknown), and Abusman Ahwang (1893–1916). Other children were Saptu Ahwang, Archie Ahwang, and Sheila Mayor, who married Thomas Mayor (Snr). Sheila’s mother’s maiden name was Kebisu.
Annie and Dai’s family also included Atima Mary Ahwang (1898–1939), who married Sang Kee (1888–1930), as well as Ernest Ahwang, who married a Sebasio woman, and Kenny Ahwang. Several children’s names are presently unknown.
Japar, also known as Jaffa Ahwang (1901–1963), Raima Ahwang (1903–1964), Nelam Ahwang (born 1904, date of death unknown), and Noranee Ahwang (1906–2003) were also among their children.
Saia Ahwang was born on Badu Island in 1909 and, in 1926, married Hassan Binwel, who was born in Ambon, Maluku, Indonesia. Their children were Hagija Binadorah (born 1927), Halima Binawel, Mariam Binawel, Abdulla Binawel—who married Elsie Mosby—Abdul Kerem Binawel, Omar Binawel, and Noreen Yorkston.
Later descendants include William Abdulla Ahwang (1915–1986), Ahboo Ahwang (1917–2011), Abusman Ahwang (deceased), Anima Ahwang (deceased), and William Abdulla Ahwang (deceased).
