Eccles Tamwoy

Eccles Tamwoy 

Eccles Tamwoy was traditionally adopted from Harry Peo Nuie and Kakai, native women from Parama Island in present-day Papua New Guinea. He was born in 1883 on Darnley Island and died on 1 November 1966 on Badu Island at the age of 83.

Eccles married Taum, who was born on Mabuiag Island. Together they raised a large family whose descendants are connected across several island communities.

Their children included Naianga Nona (Nee: Tamwoy), who married Tanu Nona; Peo Tamwoy, who married Timena Nona; Jomen Tamwoy, who married Kales (surname and dates unknown); and Titom Tamwoy, who married Louisa Nona.

Other children were Geiza Blanket (Nee: Tamwoy), who married Daniel Blanket, and Timothy Tamwoy, who was born on 15 October 1919 on Badu Island and died on 15 February 1995 at Bamaga. Timothy married Evelyn Dorante.

The family also included Evelyn Tamwoy, who married Tala Lui, as well as Albert Tamwoy. Records indicate at least one additional child whose name remains unknown.
