Maryann was traditionally adopted and was born on Badu Island, where she also passed away.
Maryann married Mye Maira, also known as Dobbie, who was from Badu Island and died on 5 June 1958 at the age of 76. Together they raised a family whose descendants are connected across Badu and surrounding communities.
Their children included Walter Mairu, Igito Mairu, Joe Mairu, Gaggie Warria, Bethel Mairu, and Kimasu Mairu. They also had a daughter, Atima Baira (née Mairu), who married Nukis Baira, as well as Annie Mairu.
