Powanga traditional adoption
Powanga Savage (Snr) was born in 1900 at Dabu, Mua Island, and died in 1972 at Badu Island (1900–1972). His biological parents were Maivanga Savage and Aiaga Savage. Aiaga died in 1900, at the time of Powanga’s birth or while he was still an infant. As Maivanga was unable to care for an infant child at that time, Powanga (Snr) was traditionally adopted by Joe and Zaraza Savage of Badu Island.

Powanga (Snr) Married Ida (Nee: Brown) from Mapoon, who was born in Burketown, Gulf of Carpentaria, and they had ten children.
Their children were Clara Savage, who was born and died in 1921 on Badu Island as an infant; Clara Baira (Nee Savage), born 5 October 1923 on Badu Island and died 8 November 1999 on Thursday Island, married to Simi Baira; Maivanga Savage, born 9 March 1926 on Badu Island and died 30 November 1944 on Badu Island; Henrietta Savage, born 30 December 1927 on Badu Island and died 2 June 1952 on Badu Island; Powanga Savage (Jnr), born 16 March 1930 on Badu Island and died 27 March 1990 on Thursday Island, married Annie Gertrude Warrack; Flora Nona (Nee Savage), born 24 February 1934 on Badu Island and died 12 May 2021 on Badu Island, married Philamon Nona; Walter Mairu Savage, born 19 March 1936 on Badu Island and died 23 January 2001 on Palm Island; Zawra Lency Baira (Nee Savage), born 23 August 1939 on Badu Island and died 8 April 2014 on Badu Island, married Horace Baira; and Gloria Baira (Nee Savage), born on Badu Island and died at Bamaga/New Magico community, Northern Peninsula Area.
